What is a pain management physician?
A board-certified pain management specialist is a physician who has completed four years of medical school, residency, a fellowship in pain management, and is board-certified by the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians. These pain specialists have an extensive knowledge of the nerves, muscles, bone, and brain and have advanced training and expert knowledge in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating all different types of pain. They are also experts in pain medication. Their purpose is to identify and treat the pain affecting a patient’s movement, sleep, or quality of life due to an injury, nerve damage, metabolic problem, surgical procedure, cancer, and other health conditions.
What is minimally invasive surgery?
Minimally invasive surgery is a surgical procedure using very thin-needles to create tiny incisions with an endoscope as a visually guide, instead of making one large incision opening. This type of surgery can reduce surgical pain and trauma to the body and cause less scarring and tissue damage. Patients also often have quicker recovery times.
