This Week's Question: I was recently diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. What are my treatment options?
Dr. Falco's Answer: First, let me share with readers a little about this condition. Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) is a type of neuropathic pain that can occur in anyone at any age but typically those aged 40-60 and more often in women than men. It's estimated that 8 million suffer from this chronic pain condition in the U.S. with the cause believed to be the result of dysfunction in the central or peripheral nervous systems. Symptoms include severe burning pain, pathological changes in bone and skin, excessive sweating, tissue swelling, and extreme sensitivity to touch.
